Fig Bread or figgy pudding!

My first attempt  this month did not rise and were a gummy mess. I forced myself to eat some, then put in freezer, then removed and fed the wildlife. I've baked this before with success so tried to find out what I did wrong. I checked the expiration date on the baking soda...2002. That might do it.
I have no idea what key I hit to get this civilized lettering!

It's a Dogs Life!

While I was driving down a busy highway I noticed a truck in front of me with a cage or enclosed pen in the bed of the truck. The door to the enclosure opened and a beautiful German Shepard strolled out. The dog walked around the bed of the truck, then stuck its head out to feel the wind.  All I could think of was the possibility of the dog jumping out of the truck  and getting mauled by oncoming traffic.
Should I honk, get the drivers attention, what, what, what, should I do?

Just as I was about to go into a complete state of panic & helplessness.....the dog opened the door to the enclosure, climbed back in and shut the door.

Cookies for Choristers

One of my first experiences on stage was a one-liner that I thought was stupid. I was only in Kindergarten but I remember being urged by the Sister who wrote the play "Taffy Ann". Gloria had the part of Taffy Ann.

I was supposed to run across the stage after having fallen down and say, " A cookie is good for a crack in the head ho ho."  Of course I was holding a cookie.  How dumb is that. I resisted.
Then my sister Barbara showed me how to do it. Finally I gave in, but I always thought it was a stupid line!

I don't know what this has to do with cookies I put in the freezer for St. James Chorister, but every good singer deserves a reward!
Taking a photo in the freezer not the best method!

Joyful Morning of Weeding

Everyone loves to weed! Right? Well I just spent my morning getting rid of pesky weeds that will be back in a moment. Similar to dusting!

But this morning I had a pleasant surprise. We have a baby rabbit living in one section of our yard.
It is pretty common to see rabbits  in our yard but seldom see the little ones.
The photo doesn't really show the size. It is less than 6 inches long and quite full figured.

Nature Comicon

Elizabeth sent this rather creepy horse head to me after I kiddingly said, "I want one." It has been sitting in the kitchen next to a jar of peanut butter and some seeds. I decided I would at least fill it once, get a photo and retire it to "silly land".   Getting a photo was not that easy, but watching the squirrels was great fun.  I have a better shot somewhere but when I search the archives they all look alike.

This will have to do.

Interesting.....

Have you ever created an accidental recipe that is interesting?
I decided to bake a coffee cake. It is a delicious and easy recipe.  However,
it is not an option to omit an important ingredient.
As is the norm, checked the progress in the oven. Something did not look right.
Hmmm. What could it be? I looked over the recipe and realized I had forgotten to add the sour cream.
By this time the cake had been in the oven for 20 minutes. I figured it would not raise , but decided
to take my chances and add the missing ingredient. So there I was like the village idiot plopping an undetermined amount of sour cream on top of the cake. I stirred it. This of course mixed the almond crumb topping into the main artery.
I have not posted a photo. It looks like raspberry swirl in a bowl of oatmeal.

Joe thinks it tastes yummy. All I can say is, "It is interesting!"
