Random Photos

Young couple taking a nap, trying to escape the sun

                                            Was Yellowstone busy, you ask?

                                                     Another cute pooch.

We actually saw this dog  in Virginia City, Montana.
The owner had two other dogs of the same breed. Apparently, this was the only one that behaved.
One was in the back of the truck trying to get out. The other trying to drive.

Another Great Animal....promise no poetry!

I was able to take a few good photos of elk. Such beautiful creatures.

Bison or Buffalo.. Another corny but informative offering!

                                                  Bison or buffalo
                                              Whatever the name
                                               Valleys and roads
                                              They all seem to claim

                                             A round-up of cowboys
                                             leading the herd
                                            off roads to safe acres
                                            to graze and to feed

                                           Close to a stream
                                             Safety for young ones
                                           Meets every need

                                          Though we were bisoned out
                                          seeing hundreds
                                           This view quite a sight
                                          Bison bucking a horse

                                          These critters are tough
                                          Now show us some others
                                         Enough is enough!

My missed shot! Grrrr!

Earlier in the week I  got a pretty good shot of a male elk, but really wanted to get photo of a young one.
Driving back from Lamar Valley a family of elk passed right in front of our car.
So close and yet.....
With haste I aimed my camera. I was excited and nervous. Not a good state of mind when trying to aim a camera at fast moving animals. I was very disappointed in myself. I blew a perfect chance.
So much luck is involved when sighting animals. It is not like a zoo. I blew it!

It reminded me of a time many years ago when we were in Yellowstone and a bear came right up to the car.  The kids ducked down in the back seat. I was so nervous I couldn't snap the Polaroid.

The results were the same. No bear....no elk appeared in the photo.

My best shot

I was going to save this for later but here goes. There was a traffic jam in front of us which usually means a bison is on the road.
Lo and behold I spotted two black bear. I couldn't get out of the car since I value my life, so waited patiently for a chance to get a photo of Blackie.
I didn't get that great a shot of the black bear but wait....there is a cinnamon honey black bear. Such excitement. Since they fear no one and just kept eating I waited until the bear raised its head.

Waiting for Family

One of the smallest critters in Yellowstone

While walking back from one of the many wonders I spotted this little one having a feast.
And it didn't smell like sulfur!
