Our Welcome Home

While sitting on our deck we spotted this bird. A first for me. I looked it up and believe it is a
Red Shafted  Flicker. We see many Northern Flicker but this is different. At first I thought it was a Sapsucker but upon closer examination .....either way it's a new sighting for me.

  1. No picture yet. Is it yellow bellied? My Uncle Bill used to tell us that his favorite bird was the double-breasted mattress thrasher!

  3. Liz didn't want to dampen my spirits but finally admitted that they see these often by their house.
I don't know if the photo shows it but this bird was smaller than the Northern Flickers we see in the yard and much more red on the wing and head.
    Or, I'm going crazy.
